Re: Fog Light Improvement
pjpvi ,
Fog and Driving Lights are one and the same on SportMobile's 4X4 accessory list even though there is a misprint showing that the lights come with the desired H3 Hella Bulbs , they actually are delivered with the 55 watt H1 Hella Bulbs . The H3 is the 100 watt bulb as defined above and makes for a more desirable lighting system , not a lot but definitely better than stock and much more usable .
Greggde
I just checked the bulbs that I replaced and they are in fact the H3 55 watt and not the H1 as I described . The bulb that you will need for exchange is THe H3 100 Watt with the wired pigtail , SportsMobile's site is not a misprint after all , they provide the DOT approved
H3 with 55 Watts of power , sorry for the confusion I have to many bulb's in my Bin .

Re: Fog Light Improvement
Greggde,
OK... I thought I was beginning to understand all this until the second half of that last post.... can you help me by restating this?
From past experience, I seem to remember fog and driving lights having two different types of lens, with the fog having a more opaque lens to diffuse the light and the driving lights being more clear. Is that the case with the lights we are talking about?
is the lens itself part of the bulb? (no, I have not taken a close look at the lights we have in the bumper)
Thanks,

Re: Fog Light Improvement
Greg ,
I was referring to the way SportsMobile show's this option on their web sight , and you are absolutely correct in that the lights beam is controlled by refractive dispersion employed in the manufacturing process , with the fog having the more broken pattern . In any case the changing of the H3 55 watt to the
H3 100 watt bulb will provide you with a noticeable improvement with little expense .

Re: Fog Light Improvement
Is the lens that I see when looking at the bumper part of the bulb or just a lens covering a bulb?

Re: Fog Light Improvement
Greg ,
That should be the lens of the light . The bulb's are the same and the light pattern is controlled by the shape and finish of the lens . The bulbs on these lights are clear without any pattern on them . a little tip that you all are probably aware of is to make absolutely sure that you do not leave any type of residue (fingerprints etc.) on these bulb's when installing them . I use clean cotton glove's and carefully wipe the bulb off with a tissue with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on it .

Re: Fog Light Improvement
So Greggde, have you actually used them in heavy Fog? I have some white PIAA fog lights on my other 4x4 and they are worthless in the fog because they are too bright. They are great driving lights though. I live in an area that is plagued with fog and don't want to loose the preformance I have now, but if an upgrade helps I might go for it.

Re: Fog Light Improvement
Dave ,
I have only had to use them twice in a medium fog and you are correct that the amount of reflected glare is less than desirable . I love to explore at night as well as during daylight hours and it is then that I have found them very useful . Living in Southern California it is very seldom anymore that we encounter problem's with fog . I carry the 55 watt bulbs in a repair bag and wouldn't hesitate to change them if need be .
