Re: Ford aux idle control power module

Very nice, I hadn't seen the Dfuser unit before.

Since you already have the APCM, you might want to give it a try first. It only takes a minute or two to connect, and the harness is long enough that you could stash it under the driver seat or in the engine housing compartment. Since it can be programmed for "Charge Protect" automatically, having it out of sight isn't a problem.

Here's another nice thing about the APCM, it has a digital tachometer! Since Ford didn't start adding the tachometer to the van instrument cluster until '04, this is a feature you'll probably appreciate. Most SMB customers didn't mind the APCM resting on the engine housing below the radio because of the tachometer feature. Also, when in the Charge Protect mode, it serves as a digital voltmeter.

This is all information from my recollection, but I believe it is accurate.

Re: Ford aux idle control power module

I have an early '04 and I had to request the AIC if I remember correctly. I keep it under the passenger seat and only plug it in when I wish to use it. I tuck the wiring harness back up under the dash. I only use Charge Protect (fast idle) mode when I'm either charging up the house battery or running the van AC. I understand that extended idling at low speed can lead to coking and turbo problems but I'm on my 3rd turbo and this one has been dismantled and cleaned once so not sure if it really makes a difference.
