Frame Welding and Electrical Components
We encountered a small mishap while traversing the Kaiser Pass Road - 168 in the Sierras - on our way to Thomas A. Edison Lake. This is a marginally paved, single lane road with steep grades, and blind hair-pin turns. I clipped a boulder with my barn door hoop step which ripped off, bent the rocker panel, and punctured the gray water tank. Lesson learned – wished I had read BigVan's & Ford_6L_E350's posts of removing/hinging the hoop steps for this type of terrain and/or taking those blind hair-pins curve wide and having faith that we wouldn’t have a head-on collision.
Our question for the experts: the body shop will need to do some frame welding to repair the rocker panel. Is there a danger to our electronic components from the welding process? If so, what should we do to protect those components? Besides the standard vehicle components, we have two coach batteries, a 2000 watt inverter/charger as well as 12v/110v refrigerator, and standard SMB electrical stuff. Any advice on how to protect the electronics?
