Get the LED in.

I've been worried about all the SMB a-cooter-ments (spare tire, storage boxes, EZ Racks, shovels etc) blocking the brake lights. So I added T10 red LEDs to each of the back up lights in the bumper. The reflectors in my back up lights are plastic, so it was easy to add a light in each using these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0882956951
Works great:

and even work as turn signals too since I wired them into the trailer outlet.

Back up lights are fully functional.

Re: Get the LED in.

Thats a great idea...much safer and look good too...

I put some chrome round LED trailer lights in those holes on the last Aluminess bumper I installed, they worked well but I personally did not like how they looked but the owner wanted them and thought they were great and thats all that matters...

Re: Get the LED in.

I think this is a great idea Zeta!

Would you mind taking a close up photo or two, in the day time, so we can see how you put it together?
I like this much better than adding a pickup truck strip light.

I agree with Steve. Are they the Hella backup lights? More pics please...this is a great idea.

Re: Get the LED in.

I've seen quite a few vehicles with brighter than stock tail lights. Sometimes it's tough to tell if that person is braking or not. I'n not sure if there are any legal limits on the brightness of tail lights but it may be worth looking into the legalities of the conversion.

Of course since Z resides in the Idaho I'd bet there aren't any laws that cover tail lights.

Get the LED in.

They are Hellas, and they still look stock.

The reflector is plastic, so it's easy to drill to accept the T10 bulb holder.

Back up lights look normal

Re: Get the LED in.

Thanks for posting Z.

This is really a fantastic idea. I plan to do it. Thank you.

Way better than adding a third brake light a la pick up truck style.

Re: Get the LED in.

Tom, is that socket they're selling come with the bulb? I figured the T-10 is the socket and the other numbers are the bulb, or is there a specific number for the bulb. Myself I wouldn't mind if it was a 3 way bulb that could be used as a complete tail light as well.

Get the LED in.

You might be able to fit two bulb holders in each light, then one could be a parking light. Bulbs not included, but easy to find on eBay.
