Re: GFI issues
Interesting.
Now I know why my TrippLite instruction sheet says not to attach it to a GFI protected circuit.
Why is your inverter on when connected to shore power? I have a separate battery charger. Inverter is only needed when not using shore power. Shore power coming into my van goes directly to a GFI device. Everything in the van that runs off of shore power is GFI protected. It is a problem sometimes when hooked to shore power that has its own GFI. Only in the sense, when I have a ground fault problem it trips both GFI's and both must be reset when figuring out what device is causing them to trip.

Re: GFI issues
Here is the trick to plug into a GFCI if you have the Tripp-Lite inverter/charger. Turn the inverter on (auto invert) and then plug to the outlet. After waiting a couple of minutes you can turn the inverter off (line charge only) and you should be fine. You could also leave the inverter in the on and the batteries will charge just fine.
I hope this helps.

John, you are a hero, I just had to install a new inverter as ours failed and caused a whole mess of problems including frying our house batteries and setting the co2 detectors off in our house in December. After battling with Tripp Lite since Dec they finally got me a new one. The new inverter was a bit of a pain to install. I just put it in two days ago. As soon as we plugged it in our garage it would trip the breakers. The strange thing is our "old" inverter from 2007 never had this issue. Tripp Lite did change the model numbers, the new on is black not white and something must be different.
Bottom line, it's now charging using your method below of leaving it on auto invert then switching it over to line charge only. YES YES YES. I just joined this forum and have a big smile on my face.

Glad I could help. This is what the SMB Forum is all about.

Re: GFI issues
I am having a 110 issue as well. I reset the GFI but still no power to any of my 110 outlets. Not really sure what to check next.
Thank you,
L

Re: GFI issues
Do you have a voltage indicator or voltmeter? Check to make sure you didn't loose power at the shore power plug...some of the people are loosing the house GFI not the Vans GFI. Check the Vans GFI on the one outlet that has it...trip it and reset it. Next turn off all the breakers and turn them back on.
[edit] some vans are configured to run power via an inverter but most have an independent AC system or the inverter passes the AC power through it to the van.

Re: GFI issues
You've checked grounded power at the wall?
Power before the "dongle" (the foot long piece that actually fits the SMB)?
You've reset the GFI with power on? Got a light on the GFI (if it has one)?
Checked breakers?

Re: GFI issues
OK just learned something. The 110 works fine when running off shore power including the reset on the GFI outlet. What delivers power to my 110 outlets when boondocked? The inverter gets it's power from the GFI outlet as it just plugs into one of the outlets.

Re: GFI issues
The inverter powers from the house batteries...are you sure you have an inverter? Some vans have a AC to DC converter/charger to power 12 vDC items off shore power and charge the house batteries. Those do not produce AC power.
Whats the model/name of the unit you see as the inverter?

Re: GFI issues
It's an intelli power 9100. Model PD9160A. 1000watt. Still trying to figure out what delivers power to 110 outlets when boondocked? ...and I think your right I don't have an actual inverter. So next question. What size inverter do I need to get to run my 110 outlets, microwave, and an aux Air conditioner when boondocked. This sounds more complicated then just swapping out the converter. Am I getting into having to redo wiring and having to install a new electrical panel?
Many thanks
