Re: Go Solar...fixed or Portable setup?

I went with fixed for the of the reasons listed below. Plus I have a small group 36 battery. The two 135 watt panels that are on the penthouse make the recharge time short on sunny days and a few hours on heavily overcast days.

Re: Go Solar...fixed or Portable setup?

Thanks for the responses everyone! I'm kinda of leaning towards a portable unit for the following reasons.

1. Park in the shade and charge in the sun - I camp in the woods
2. more versatile - Can be used on another vehicle or place that needs power
3. When I store my van in my side yard I have a shore power connected
4. Plug and play

Does anyone have any recommendations on a portable setup? I was looking at the GO POWER.

or the Zamp portable unit

Here's the 150W portable panel that I went with (Bosch panels). Does not include a controller, but I like that idea so the controller is not mounted to the back of a hot solar panel. Bought a cheap MPPT controller off eBay, and so far everything is working great.

One other thought about fixed/permanent panels: You don't have to plug your van into shore power to keep the batts topped up. This was a big plus for me...just park it and (almost) forget about it. The solar charger watches over the house batteries all day, every day.
