HAM Radio Mounting

We are picking up our SMB tomorrow from a private seller and we are really excited to get it. Im just wondering where you guys mounted your HAM radios? The rig already comes with the built in CB and K40.. but i have a Yaesu 2800m and antenna i need to mount up.

Any ideas with pics would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, ran over to Ham radio outlet and picked up a mount for my antenna. Should work good outback and doesn't stand 50 ft tall like it would up on the roof.

Next is to wire and mount up the radio. Then on to the Lowrance Baja 540.

I don't have my radio installed in my SMB, so I'm no help there. Looks like you have that squared away now.

Seeing such a tall whip antenna does concern me if it's always installed. On botht he road and offroad, that length of antenna will live up to it's name and whip around. I would secure the end of the whip in a gentle arc, and also take measures to prevent it's contact against the body of your van.

It's not all that close to the van body IMHO. In fact, it's a 'breakable' antenna ... so if it hits something hard it snaps in half. I actually ran it on the front of the landcruiser ARB bumper and it worked great. If we get into serious brush/trees where it becomes a problem.. then i probably shouldn't be there with the van in the first place

Also it unscrews in 5 secs if need be. Im much more concerned with the CB antenna. The roof top CB is much higher than the 2meter ever will be. I've already smacked it on tree limbs.. but generally speaking the Wilson 1000 and K40's can take some serious abuse.

I might still go with a stubby one, but for now this is the best antenna for my radio and it's free so.. maybe down the road i'll get shorter version.

Has anyone mounted a HAM radio up where the CB radio is? Im afraid it will get too hot up there with not enough room to breath properly...?

The radio is in. All the communications are done.

Ham radio, CB radio, SPOT, GPS, and head unit with satellite radio, back up camera, cd / dvd and ipod connections/ dvd override switch.

Very clean install. Everything looks to be convenient for both the driver and the co-driver. Nice job.
