Re: Handheld HAM radio

Hi Herb
I have the FT-60R. (and a SPOT) Its built like a brick. Plane simple no frills, 2m 70cm. You just need to replace the rubber duck with a decent little whip antenna. It does have a nice little feature called ARTS (auto range transponder system) that works with your 7900. Look on page 52 of your 7900 manual. I use it on solo hikes to make sure I don't get out of range with the mothership.

Re: Handheld HAM radio

Right now icom has a sale on the U82 2 mtr hand held.. 7 watts... and more... you can see what it comes with over at

they are going for 150 bux right now over at AES... but as the guy says.. get the AA case for it and you have the best of both world... along with the remote speaker mic... its a great setup...

Some will say you need both 2 and 440.. but if your looking for a basic radio.. that will do it all... check it out
