It would be connected to the alternator + wire

The extra wire

So what happened when you hooked up that wire to the + terminal on the new alternator? I purchased the MG 300 amp altrenator and am in the process of installing it now and have the same issue.

I haven’t had a chance to install the new alt yet....let’s see who gets theirs in first to post up results.

Hooked up

I was able to hook up my new MG Ind. 300 amp Alternator. The battery light did not come back on even though I had no place to plug in the extra wire.

That's great news, but I'm a bit surprised you don't have a battery light. I suspect it might depend on what year your van is as my 2001 for sure will set the light if the second wire isn't connected. I love your battery connection terminal, do you mind sharing what it is and where you found it? I assume it comes with an insulating cover?

Alternator

I purchased the multiple connector from FICM repair. When you look up alternator wiring it has some different options for pre made wiring and fusing as well as a few options for battery terminal ends. I doesn't have a cover for it so that I will have to make myself.

Final result

I abandoned the Leece Neville because of uncertainty with the fit and bought the DCPower 250 Amp alternator that DCPower specifically lists for my '06 E350 van. I had to do a small amount of grinding on the bottom of the paasenger side mounting surface to clear an existing ground wire but otherwise it fit right up. Connection to the voltage regulator was made with the supplied pigtail adapter. I added a fused 1/0 cable to the battery buss bar and a new 1/0 chassis ground. The van is charging at 13.8 to 14.2 volts and seems to be quite happy (aside from the A/C compressor eating itself for the third time right after installation.)

Garage
Mine went in fine but had to temporarily ditch oil fill bracket and CAC bracket. No lights and charges at 13.5 most of the time. DC power 275 is what came out. I’ll send it in to be fixed and probably sell someone else to upgrade theirs.
