Hella 500 Fog Lights wiring question

I'm installing my fog lamps on our Aluminess bumper. Is there a way to wire the lights without tapping in to my high beams? I ran the wires, ground, etc. in the correct connection on the relay, but did not splice into the high beams from the switch (I want the Fog Lamps to be independent), and no power. Do I need to get a new relay or wire differently? Unfortunately, the instructions only show how to wire the light with the high-beams. Sorry for being naive, but I am new to the world of 12 V and DIY stuff. Thanks guys!

I added three sets of lights to my Road Armour front bumper. I never connected to the headlights. All the circuit needs is a signal that 12v. is present, so I connected them all to a hot spot in or around the fusebox. I can use all those lights alone if I wish to.

Ray, I wired my auxilliary lights into the parking light wire. So, as long as the parking light is on, the lights can be turned on. I made a post about how I did the wiring several months ago. Let me know if you need it.

Mine were wired directly to a 12 volt circuit until I left them on during daytime fog after shutting the engine off. I now have them on the ignition side so when the key is off the lights are off. I can turn the fog lights on when needed for things like setting up camp without having to run extra lights that deplete battery power.

Where is that wiring Guide? Why do you want to use a relay when installing lights?

Joe, if you do a google image search for HELLA wiring you should be able to find it. Using a relay prevents a high load from drawing straight off the switch. The 500's come with a relay to use with the Harness. It's the correct way to wire the lights.
