Hella Help

You guys have been great on answering alot of my questions, so here's another one for you. I have the large Hella 4000 on the front of my rig. Recently the have stopped working completely, although I have power going to my switch (illuminates when turned on) but no lights not even one side. Looked everywhere for the fuse unsure if they are fused to my panel or are they independent? Also looked at the wiring, its all in tact, I went to the extent of ordering new relays, but have not received them in the mail. I spoke with a gentleman at Offroad Warehouse and he said something to the fact that if you have a battery issue that its possible you are not powering up the ballast to illuminate them ( possible problem being that my 4D battery is completely dead) also said it could be a relay. So I guess what I'm asking is if a single relay is out do they both not work or is there a fuse that I have not found that could be bad? Any advise or input is helpful. Thanks again

Happy Sportsmobiling

Scott

Re: Hella Help

Mine did the same thing and it was a wire that broke. Trying to follow it out was impossible because the way SMB ran the wire (at least in my case) looked like it ran into a mass of engine componets. It's too bad that SMB's wiring job wasn't more user friendly. I was told it is a relay that activates them, but can't be positive. I would look for a fuse, terminal, or other problem before jumping to conclusions. It might be something as simple as a loose ground.

Re: Hella Help

Thanks you definately have the same person that did your wiring that did mine as well. It runs through the firewall with 1 million other wires. Do you have any idea where the fuses are. Are they independent or are they tied to the stock fuse panel?

Re: Hella Help

I'm not sure if there are more than one fuse but you might try to follow it from the dash switch. I have a group of fuses bundled together close to the brake pedal. I think that is where mine's located but the problem was between the lights close to the radiator. It never shorted and the fuse was good; the wire just opened up. I think they had to pull part of the front grill area off to access it. That's why I said you might want to examine every possibility before getting in it heavy. You could E-mail SMB for some ideas. My guess is it runs with the fog light circuit if you have them.
