House appliances run whether breaker is on or off. Normal??
Our inherited 1991 Sportsmobile failed to start this morning -- no response to ignition at all. Wondered if we had accidentally drained van battery by somehow leaving something on in the "house." Checked refrigerator, water pump, heater, lights -- all are off. (No microwave or water heater in this SMB.) Checked breakers: all 4 are off. Just to see what would happen, turned refrigerator on... it started up! Tried water pump: it runs! Lights work, too. Breaker is still off. Hmmmm, how can this be? I thought the breaker turned everything off. Turned breaker on, then tested all electrical items... same results as with breaker off (refrigerator runs; water pump runs; lights work). So... breaker has no effect on house appliances/electrical. Is this normal?
