So I want to make sure I have this right after reading the posts you've posted Greg regarding the surepower 1315-200. By default, my setup should be in the configuration where both batteries (house, and 2 x engine) are assisting in the starting of the engine with no intervention.

This is not too bad of a configuration except that as you've posted, issues with the engine battery start performance and aging could be masked by the cabin battery. This could cause you to have to replace all of the batteries in the end instead of just the engine batteries.

Do I have that right?

Chris

Also I want to confirm what I believe to be the negative cable for both engine batteries. Up above the positive jumper terminal there is a black cable that is fastened to the frame. I'm guessing this is the negative for both batteries? If I need to disconnect the batteries for electrical work it would be best to unbolt the negative cable from the frame? Thanks.

Yes that's the negative for both frame mounted starter batteries.

There are lots of different reasons for disconnecting / leaving connected / shorting battery terminals depending on the type of work you are doing to the vehicle. Just remember that simply disconnecting the negative you are leaving one line floating and if you are doing something like welding that's probably not the best thing to do.

Thank you for the confirmation! Is this setup a sportsmobile thing, or e350 thing with frame mounted batteries?

Its specific to the E350 6.0 PSD. All other engine options have diferent battery locations. SMB have a different location for the house battery(s), so don't forget to disconnect that.
