In Dash Nav Backup Stereo June 2022

(yes i searched LOL, could not find any current stuff)

Need:
reccomeddatons on a E350 dash replacment unit

I am not an audiophile, in fact dont listen to tunes driving

But, since i need a BU cam and Nav, might as well

Would prefer wireless
I know some have two cameras, one low one high
Dont need a dash cam, I will not be doing car chases

Any of you Awesome People have a link or a model number ?

Thank you MUCHO for your help

BW

Important information -
what mobile phone do you use?

Are you using your phone for navigation and are you okay continuing to use your phone navigation but displaying the map and instructions on the Head unit?

Do you use any other phone based navigation such as maps.me, Waze, etc.?

That’s why I love you guys you cut right to the Chase

i’m an iPhone guy

I generally use Google maps

it would be nice if I didn’t have to switch platforms

and my rig has a built-in mobile cell and Wi-Fi router

in theory I can do a self install without too much drama

around where I live the installation cost for stuff is starting to exceed the cost of the parts

Any name brand will have Apple CarPlay / Android auto in a double din with backup cam for $350~$400, personally I’d steer clear of the cheaper Boss / Jensen units and run away from any Android tablet based units. All will be significantly cheaper but user experience and reliability will suck. So go with Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony. That price range all will use your cell phone for maps and GPS receiver.
If you don’t want to rely on phone GPS and used the GPS receiver of the headunit (much better), you will need a headunit that has native wireless Apple CarPlay (not an aftermarket wireless adapter), these are in the $750 range from a name brand. These will still use the phone for the maps but you will get better GPS resolution from the build in GPS receiver. If you want all maps & gps in the HU then you’ll be in the $1k+ range.

Use crutchfield and select digital media receiver and size of double din. (Or put in E350) as vehicle. They will list just about every HU, except the Android tablet based stuff, that personally I wouldn’t buy.

Those are the ones I would personally recommend you don’t get. Android tablet based head units have a crap UI and are unreliable. But that’s just my opinion. Research forums and make you own mine up (just please don’t use YouTube)

Personally i would forget about using a cell phone for navigation on anything but local drives. What happens when your youre in an unfamiliar location and you lose your cell signal?

Stick with a unit that uses Garmin Navigation. Personally i want the maps built in to the unit so even if i lose cell signal i still have navigation.

Garage
One can use a navigation app and download maps to the phone so it works without cell reception.
