Wow. Glad you got it sorted and didn't toast your van!

I'll take a look at mine.

30 amp twist lock power connectors are bad...

Here is a good description of the problem.

"artictraveller" pretty much nailed it. Too bad I didn't fix mine before it got so bad....

That is a very informative article... thanks
It got me thinking about all the different designs of heavy duty plugs and receptacles that are in use around the world .

DCHIT , Thanks for posting, that got me off my a$$ and pushed me to replace mine. I always figured this was more of a boat problem because of the movement. Needless to say your post speaks for itself.

These things are built like a tank,

The backside of the receptacle was the only thing that I could find fault with. It is a little open for the location it goes on my van, I taped it off, and it's fine.

Scalf77: Looks good.

Your top picture of the plug was using a black cord (normally RV plug on the other end.)

The later picture of the plug was using a yellow cord (normally a boat cord with a twist lock on the other end).

How did you manage that?

Yes, two different cords. The black one is the main RV cord that I keep in the van. The yellow or actually faded orange was just a large gauge extension cord that I modified for plugging in at home.
