A clip on amp gauge would tell you if you are putting more then 150 amps across the breaker.

Great article on Don Rowe, thanks CarringB. I forgot about that site.

From reading there and other places it looks like most microwaves generally consume about twice the cooking power they are rated for, so in my case my 700 watt microwave is sucking roughly 1400 watts and I have a 1250 watt inverter. It has surge power at double the 1250 but still, way too close. I just found a 600 watt rotary dial microwave on Amazon for <$50 and I hope that will be gentler on my small battery bank. I have not pulled or tested the breaker since it is behind my counter and I can only reach it with my hand, can't even see it. Bad placement there on my part. I'll probably redo the whole layout.
