There are different products out there. I like the ability to make field repairs and bypass a device when needed. Here is one that looks good but I have no stats on it. It might work for you. Just another product to look at.

I think the main reason SMB switched is a charge relay or solenoid can throw a charge in both directions. That way the solar panels can keep both banks up.

i believe one of the positives of the separator is that you don't get the voltage drop you get across the isolator. This invariably means you will get full voltage to your batteries. I also believe that you may want to look at wiring your generator up to a 110 charger/or charger-inverter. The 12 volts coming out of the generator will not be the best thing for charging your battery. Just my two cents, it will be your dollars.

We have a diode isolator made by Sure Power. The 0.5 volts lost across the isolator is important when you have long wire lengths such as going to the battery on a house trailer. The house battery in my van is separated from the alternator by 18 feet of 6 gage wire and recharges (from a 50% discharge) in just a few hours of driving.
