I have three 3000k strips on my ceiling. Two 30” in the front of the van and one 12” in the back over the bed. I used come channel a dual sliding dimmer. I cut off the adapter and soldered on some 20awg wire. Some 3m dual lock velcroed to my slightly fuzzy hull liner ceiling has held them up just fine.

I hadn't seen that channel before. That makes it pretty darn clean and easy. I have found these jumpers handy working with LED light tape.

Thanks for the links.

Thanks, good info. The wiring portion is no great mystery to me, but I have no experience with the components involved, so I wanted to hear what worked for people. A lot of the LED controllers out there are meant for computer cases and aren't that suitable. But I may just try an on-off switch and see how I like it -- if I decide I need dimming I can add that later.

I already replaced the festoon bulbs in the existing lights with LED bulbs, but I'd like something more diffuse and easy on the eyes, hence the LED strip idea.

Incidentally, I put red LEDs in one circuit of a couple of the lights (they have two switches, originally intended for a bright/dim effect) and it's turned out to be really handy. When I want to leave the van in the middle of the night, the dim red illumination gives me enough light to put my shoes on, without ruining my night vision or waking up my wife.

FWIW- I recently bought one of the super cheap, $11.95, LED 4 strip, remote, light kits on Amazon to put in the back of my pickup truck shell. Was not impressed with the light output, and the "white" setting is super blue. Didn't expect much, cheap entertainment but would skip that stage and get something better to start with next time.

That does look nice. I think it's going to depend on whether the LED strips will be exposed or not. If I can hide them behind the padded fascia below the top bunk rail, I'll probably use the bare ones, otherwise the neon-style ones look good. I'm planning more for ambient lighting than direct lighting -- I already have a good number of task lights.

I'm interested in adding an LED strip in my GTRV but not sure exactly what I need to do the project beyond the light strip itself. The good news is I've got an existing 12-volt light fixture in place so wires are available to connect to.

I'm interested in RGB and dimmable. Here's a couple pics showing the existing setup. This switch/fixture happens to have two lights of which either can be selected, but neither is worth a damn other than having a very dim light when you get up at night, I guess.

Can someone advise me on the proper hardware, connections, etc. I need to acquire? Thanks.

So there are different "levels" of LED light strips, and they are very different.

Want to be able to change the colors on the entire strip with an IR remote? This is the most basic level and include Red/Green/Blue LEDs (RGB).

Maybe you want to be able to have a true white as well? RGBW

Now lets flash it to music and maybe add bluetooth app support.

Top of the line, and what I ordered? Bluetooth, RGB, Individually addressable LED strips.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

With this strip you get the basic sound active, but can also control ANY section of the strip to display different simultaneous colors. Chase from one end or the other. Chase from both ends with different colors. Create a custom flash pattern.

If you want the ultimate LED utility so you can pick exactly what part of the van lights up what, and occasionally want the party bus experience, these rock.

It comes with 2 16ft strips that mirror each other. I snipped off the AC plug and wired it in with a fuse to my 12v dome lights.

Basic white and a red white blue look here:
