Lifeline AGM 4 D batteries

I stopped for lunch yesterday, the fridge was cold, everything was fine. 3 hours later when I got home the fridge wasn't running and the Van battery was stone cold dead, no reading on the voltmeter at all. It's been hooked up to shore power overnight, and hasn't accepted a charge. I had spent 4 days travelling and camping, ran the lights at night, the furnace in the morning and the reefer was running all the time. The volt meter always read 12.8 or above. The battery is 5 1/2 years old, and when I'm not using The Van, it's in the garage, plugged in to shore power. Has anyone had any experience with the Lifeline AGM batteries, how long they last, and when the die, is it a slow death, or do they just up and quit?

thanks..

Tom

Re: Lifeline AGM 4 D batteries

I emailed Sportsmobile West about this and I got this response back from Alan.

These batteries are rated for 3 to 5 years use, depending on how many times they have been cycled, heat, cold, and storage conditions. So also check age of battery.

May want to get the battery tested.

If it goes from working fine at 12.8V to no reading in a few hours, first I would check voltage at the battery. Even a dead battery should read 10.5V+. You may have a loose connection that came apart on the trip home.

Re: Lifeline AGM 4 D batteries

Mike makes a good point but we've never gotten more than 3 years out of one of these batteries. Ours is ready to be replaced...it seems to work okay but drops voltage much faster than when it was new.

Re: Lifeline AGM 4 D batteries

If the battery is being charged you should see voltage at the 12v rear outlets even if the battery is dead. It does sound like something is open as Mike suggested.
