Lithium-ion battery question

Lithium-ion batteries power everything from cars to cell phones. With all their advantages over lead-acid batteries, why can't I go out and buy drop-in replacements for my house batteries? What's the technical holdup?

Re: Lithium-ion battery question

Cost.

You would be paying several hundred dollars for one battery.

Re: Lithium-ion battery question

Overland Journal tested one in the latest issue. Impressive because you can run it all the way down. Also impressive is it's $2500 price. They ended up recommending a lead acid from Sears instead.

Re: Lithium-ion battery question

I thought it must be more than just cost. I'd pay a 'few hundred' more for 'em. Heck, each tire cost a few hundred and they wear out faster. But $2,500 would be out of my price range.

Even so, I've seen some tricked out rigs here with every electronic gizmo known to man. Among the folks who can afford to toss $100,000 into one of these toys without busting the budget, I'd think someone would have done it by now if just for bragging rights.
