Wire nuts have no place in a moving vehicle. If you don't want to do any connector swaps, at least use heat shrink butt connectors. Water does find it's way into the doors, so if it's not protected, you'll eventually lose a good connection.

Just saw this a week later.. sorry for the slow reply.

I'm totally down to go and do a connector swap!.... Issue is finding these connectors. Is there a P/N to just buy two pair off of Amazon for $10 or is it more along the lines of, "Go to a junk yard and try to find a van with power mirrors"?

I've seen the connector that the mirror plugs into ($25 when they are 'in stock'), but trying to find the 3 pin male end of the plug that is on the mirror is nowhere to be found (Cutting the 6 pin off and putting a 3 pin on would be much easier, don't have to work within the confinements of the door. The 3 pin connector on the passenger side is really quite short). I'd settle for cutting the old adapter off and putting a new female 6 pin plug into the door, but those seem to be unobtanium as well.

I have a collection of mated Ford connectors from 2-wire up to the 12-wire versions---these are just parts I've harvested from scarp yard vans. When they're located I'll snip their existing wires off at least 6" behind each connector, keeping them mated together.

If you want to stay with Ford-style connectors I'd suggest you do much the same. Those connectors can also be re-configured or "re-pinned" to match your circuit needs.

On occasion I've made completely new wiring harnesses using the connector shells but crimping and soldering new terminals onto the wire(s).

If you have the storage space and foresee a future need starting your own collection of these might work well later on.

Does anyone know the wiring connections? I have a 1998 E350 with 3 wire connector on the van. Colors are Red, Blue, Yellow.

Mirror has 6 pin connector with only three pins used. Yellow, Green, Red and Purple together.

I'm sure I could have a look if I can find my wiring manual...

It's been a wile since I had my door apart, but mine were 'plug-n-play' I think with two 6-pin connectors (of which only 3 were used).

Dug through some of the photos I have on hand... Hope it's of some help... if it isn't I can go dig for the manual again.
Manual is for a 2001, but worked for my '97 without issue. Edit.. guess it's rotated wrong. Should be able to download and rotate the picture I think.

Better resolution and rotated so you can read it
