More House Battery Power Needed, help!!!

My wife and I are 77 yrs old. Both are now requiring CPAP's. Have 1998 Sportsmobile with 2 Interstate Deep Cell House Batteries. It's not enough capacity to run both CPAP'S for one night. We have to make a trip to Austin, TX. Don't know if we'll be able to continue to travel and so I'm looking for the least expensive option to power the CPAP's. Any suggestions???? Help

Don’t know the power requirements, portable lithium power? Discussed some here:

Do you run the CPAP's off the inverter?
I've got my wife's running off 12v, so we dont have the losses of the inverter.
Our power is similar to yours, 2000 SMB with 2 deep cycle batteries.
Only problem is , she got a new one (resmed dream station) that was not happy plugged directly to our batteries, so we have take her older resmed system 1 when we are in the van.

What is the capacity of your batteries and how old are they? Do you travel each day enough to charge the batteries back up, or do you stay in one location for more than a day? Does your vehicle have any solar?

We both have CPAPs now as well. The humidifiers eat up a lot of power. When we are in the van we turn off the humidifiers, the wifi, and the heated hoses. My wife hates not having the humidifier because she gets snot head without it, but so it goes.

We also run them off 12V, not 110V. With out Resmeds, we have to use DC to DC converters because the units are (I think) 24V, but that's more efficient than inverting to 110V and then using the AC to DC converters that we use at home.

One Cpap would use about 40Ahrs, .... about 50 watts over 8 hrs
So something as simple as an extra 60ahr sealed battery, may work for peace of mind.
Maybe something like:
https://www.amazon.com/60AH-GROUP-RE...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

You could store it anywhere , as it is sealed (hope thats correct)
You would just have to have a way to charge it.
I know its not the best to hook it to your other batteries thst are not the same. , but thats probably what i would do, for the limited times it would be used

Herb

I'm on the same thought train as Herb. What size batteries are you currently using, & how old are the batteries? Basically you'd have to check the operating stats on the cpap and calculate your daily battery usage to determine the correct size battery system to use. Very possible that the cheapest fix might be as easy as new batteries or upgrading the total amp hours of the existing house battery system. You still need to charge daily in most circumstances...at least I do and as an example I have two 4D AGM batteries (420AH) which nightly runs my lights, audio/video stuff, the fridge, Espar heater and have plenty reserve to run a microwave for short times during the evening. I just don't know anything about CPAP electrical requirements.

thanks for reply. We have two Dreamstation CPAP's . Amp usage on each one is 6.8 amps and we need to use humidifiers. (I believe that's the reason for high amps.) Have 2 Interstate RV/deep cell 24M batteries that are 2 years old. They power one CPAP. We added additional CPAP this year and the 2 batteries will not handle it.

You need to check the location that currently houses the existing 24M batteries and see what possible sizes would fit. At 8 hrs the two CPAP's are using 108.8 amps, your two 24m's (new) are only supplying around 160 Ah. You will also need to be able to put at least that much back into the batteries everyday.

Many CPAP's allow adjustment of the humidifier heat level and a lower level will reduce the current draw. In addition, many run on 12vdc, and can be operated directly from a 12v source which will reduce the amp hours used compared to running off an inverter which will use more amp hours. You could also get a lithium battery pack to run one, or install bigger batteries, but no matter what you do, you will need to have a way to recharge what ever system you end up with. Solar, generator, shore power or simply driving. Reducing the necessary driving time to recharge may require an alternator upgrade, wiring upgrade, but it's all possible. Good luck and don't give up.
