Mounting a Sirius XM Antenna - recommendation
When we had Sportsmobile build out our Sprinter RV in 2013, we didn't include a Sirius XM system, so when we decided to add Sirius, we faced a dilemma as to how and where to install the magnetic base antenna. The standard advice from Sirius is to install the antenna for a van at the rear end above the back doors, but this would have involved running the antenna cable through (by drilling holes) or over all of the RV cabinets which would have been time-consuming and messy. Instead, I first tried simply putting the Sirius antenna at the inside base of the front window. That didn't work: we only had reception while driving south. So I then mounted the antenna on the roof just above the rear end of the driver's side front door and ran the antenna cable down along the seam between the front door panel and the side panel, sealing it behind a cover of black Sugru Mouldable Glue, down to where it slips behind the weatherstripping for the door. The Sugru Glue was easy to pack and form into place covering the cable, and it has been fantastic so far, having survived both very hot and freezing weather, rain and snow. I highly recommend it. And the Sirius reception from this location has been fantastic. See attached photo, which was taken with the cloth van cover in place, so you see a bit of the cover and its reflection on the van:
