Installed a backup camera and new radio this morning in my 2006 E350 SMB. Now no power to dash gauges or power windows or interior lights and won’t shift out of first. Checked fuses and made sure nothing grounded. Van starts and runs, doors lock and turn signals work. Seems like blown fuses, but can’t find one. Any ideas?
Determined it was a blown fuse in the box under the steering wheel. That leads me the next question, when working on electrical, is there a fuse to pull or another preventative that will prevent fuses from blowing?

Don't touch a powered wire to any metal on the body >>> it's all grounded.
Ask me how I know!!!

It's generally best practice when working on any electrical in your car to disconnect the negative battery terminal first. This will prevent you from accidentally shorting any positive connections to ground, blowing fuses, making sparks, fire, or accidental arc welding.
As an aside if you don't already have one get an EVTM for your year and chassis---those are invaluable for us DIY/s! Also keep in mind the owner's manual includes a very useful fuse and relay chart for easy reference.
