No Power at GFI

Inverter must be working as microwave works. GFI does not "pop" like a household one does. Plug something in and does not work. So two questions:
Do I assume it is a bad box? I assume I just flip the breaker and replace with a new GFI outlet ( hardware store or is it a special size to RVs)?

GFCI outlets do go bad, I would check that you are getting voltage to the outlet itself (i.e. wires going to the outlet are live w 120AC) and if you are then make sure the outlet is properly connected to that wiring, if it is then the outlet is bad and you need a new outlet.

So you are saying the outlet where the microwave plugs in is dead while on shore power or even when the inverter is on? How are you testing it?


The GFI test button should operate like any normal GFI. I'd pull the GFI out and then check voltage.



It might be as simple as a loose connection at the outlet but before you tear stuff up, test everything you can get to easily. I usually use a voltmeter but a voltage pin tester can be useful as you can test insulated cable to see if it's hot or dead.


Also you can check voltage out of each breaker to make sure one isn't tripped.


Be careful if you're not familiar with AC power.
