Old House Batteries?
I have a pair of old house batteries, since there wasn't a core charge, and I might be fixing to have two more. Lifeline, Deka, and two more Deka, each 4D sealed GEL.
What the am I supposed to do with these? I mean I'm sure I can take them to the county or whatever to properly dispose of, but autozone gave me a $5 credit for a regular old (optima) bad battery so... is there any value to these (besides ballast)?

Re: Old House Batteries?
The tweakers frequently steal the batteries from the equipment in the yard next to my work so there must be someone who'll pay something for them...

Re: Old House Batteries?
I put my old 4D in the back of a friend's pickup, which was subsequently stolen.
So just figure out which of your friends is going to have their truck stolen, and give it to them. Easy!

Re: Old House Batteries?
Jage,
Scrapyards and metal recycling places take them. The price they pay fluctuates. Recently in Tucson it was $0.24 /lb.

Re: Old House Batteries?
$50 for driving 2 hours to a recycling/scrap center? I'll pass. There was a recycle/scrap place that opened in Franktown but after the first two months they made you pay to drop stuff off. They closed shortly after.
Called Autozone for testing, they didn't know what I was talking about (are they 12v batteries? two terminals? I guess we can test them).
Called Parker RV, the only RV place within 40 miles. Sure we can test them, are they out? OK, are they charged? We can't test them unless they're charged.
Sometimes living out here is not fun. And I'm not even very far out here.

Yes, they need to be charged to test, but then most any mechanic or shop will have a load tester.. On any good tester you can specify the amp hours, which is the only thing you'd need to do different than a car battery..
