The temperature sensor on the Big Numeral version must be a lot bigger. I did a mini project write up for the sensor install:

Oooh, this is a great idea. Thanks! I just ordered this one:
http://www.weatherconnect.com/mfgproduc ... d=acurite0
*it's grey (matching my grey interior/silver exterior van)
*has a clock and an alarm clock
I'll hang it next to the lower bed where we already put a clock/alarm clock (and remove the old one). Now when I wake up in the winter, I'll know how friggin' cold it is outside...
With the low point alarms, I suppose those with external heat exchangers could use that to determine when to empty them?

OK, I am knowingly reviving an old thread, but I think it is appropriate...
We found a nice cheap small indoor/outdoor thermometer at Wally-World. After a week we took it back and exchange it for another of the same model because something did not seem to be working.
We have decided this one just won't work. It communicates well, and the display is large considering the overall small size, and the remote sensor attaches easily to the spare tire holder, BUT it eats batteries !!
We are in need of our thrid set of batteries, since June, and that just seems too often.
For comparison, we have a unit for the house, that was given to us because the neighbors did not like the fact it beeped as it approached freezing. We have had it in place for over a year, and we have not yet replaced the batteries.
The house unit is a Radio Shack/Realistic unit, and I am tempted to just move it to the SMB, but I hate to lose it for the house. I wll be looking to see what Radio Shack offers now.
Has anyone else found battery life to be an issue with wireless indoor outdoor thermometer units?
Has anyone found a nice small unit that just gives temps and maybe time and does NOT eat betteries?

I got this but put the outside sensor in the refrigerator...Beer has to be cold but not frozen! I do plan to add a different outside sensor sometime.

I like this unit because it keeps track of previous high and low temps. Got it at OSH

My Aunt (refined, cultured, Seattleite, complete opposite of my family) came to Indiana a few years ago and after taking her to dinner we hit the local Wal-mart.
When we walked through the front doors and it turned out not to be a 3rd world country with gang shootings on asile 331, my aunt looked around and said, "This isn't too bad."
We were all agast- Wal-marts had been around for 20 some years and prolific for at least the former 13, yet the woman had never been in a Wal-mart. It turns out she expected it to be some kind of pig-sty ghetto sweat shop and wouldn't have been caught dead in one until we took here there.
Funny thing, after that her family RV'd for a few years and *always* stayed in Wal-mart parking lots (always asked the manager first of course).

Weather Monitors
For those of you that enjoy monitoring the weather for various reason's you should look into a a true Anemometer . I have used them for a number of year's for numerous outdoor activity's and found them on occasion to be life saver's as well as a viable research tool .
I was reminded of my Kestrel unit when I read your most recent post's as I have been conducting wind test's on our Fiamma awning on our last three trip's into the Eastern Sierra's . I have since purchasing the SportsMobile been concerned with this awning's ability to withstand wind , after Jonathan at SportsMobile West had told me to furl the awning at the first sign of any windy condition's . I have now purchased accessory's from Fiamma that made our awning very stable in wind's that had the larger RV's putting theirs away . If interested check out www.kestrelmeters.com .

Greg, I purchased an Acu-Rite wireless setup from the link Craig listed last year ( http://www.weatherconnect.com/mfgstore. ... te0&cat=18). It has been in use since September 2007. Still on the same, original set of batteries and no issues with communication. The specific one I purchased is no longer listed on the site, though it was one of the less expensive ones.
