That should work OK. If you know anybody with a carbon pile tester you can check it faster but I would still try to find out why the top draw is so much (if it truely is) just to make sure. Do the amp check while putting up the top. You have the same lift as I do and its never over 4 amps. That's like a couple of lights!

I suspect the draw is not really that high, but it is the weakness of the battery that makes it seem to be high.....

I just replaced two batteries in my laptop... suddenly when I went off shorepower one battery would drop from 100% to 75% to 30% in no time flat.... but the aptop is not drawing any more.

New battery in place. Problem gone.
