Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I'll have sand ladders, a shovel, and recovery straps....but no winch or pull-pal. I watched a couple of youtube videos on the pull-pal, though. It seems like a clever idea....but useless, of course, without a winch.

Aluminess makes a nice front bumper for the Transit that will hold a winch. But, the cost, including winch, is on the order of $3,300...BEFORE installation.

I'm pretty sure the 400c is basically the hardwired version of the 400p.

I have a 400c and felt the need to augment it with a second compressor. For that, I ended up with a Wolo 860-C. If I did it again I'd get two of the Wolos. Cheaper, way more air flow and 100% duty cycle. The 860-C does draw even more current than the 400c. I have them wired directly to the house battery and try to have the engine running when they are on.

I may have gotten lucky and ended up with a really good wolo, hard to say with a sample size of 1. I do have a small tank as well.

I've resisted getting a winch. Mostly under the theory that if I think I'll only be OK on a trail with a winch, I should not be on that trail to begin with with an 8000+ lb van. A beach or area involving dunes might be an exception that rationale.
