How low were your batteries when you jumped it and what was the temperature? I've been eyeballing that thing but all the "tests" I've seen have been on cars and not in cold weather. And it cold starts that have me looking at this thing as a backup...

My starting batteries were around 11 volts. They would turn the engine but not for long. 40 degrees temperature. Audew sparked it right up. I was kinda amazed.

That's a great idea any way you could accomplish it. I'd be all for keeping one of these types jump packs but would be concerned with it being Li-ion.

If I ever acquire one I'll be highly tempted to house it in a semi-sealed cabinet that has an extinguisher like the Blazecut systems offer. They have a few options for installation and activation, they're not the least expensive single-use systems in the market place but what would our respective vehicles cost to replace or gut out and start all over again?

Two links to their stuff:

Might seem a bit "over killish" but again a good idea, IMHO anyway.

Now I'm looking at another swollen AG jump start pack.

Yes it stays in my Excursion, but the Excursion sits in a garage unless I'm out driving it, and it only gets driven 1-2 times a week. Time to check my other jump start packs.

At this point I'm hesitant to replace it with another AG pack.

Herb do you have a picture of the batteries out of the case? I'm wondering what they used.

I made a half-hearted attempt at opening the one a few years back, but I didn't go with a full autopsy. Once I replace my AG one (with something TBD) I'll open the old AG one up.
