Renogy recalled the flexible solar panels because of FIRES.

Well, there ya go.

I hope my panels caught fire and killed the person that stole my van.

Years in the burn ward would be a far better punishment..........

I just sent back all 4 of my renogy panels, they were only putting out 15v and over all 4 maybe 3 amps instead of 20+.
I had them about 7mos before they started failing, i thought it was the winter angle of the sun...

i've replaced them all with the HQST panels which have a way higher serial # and they do seem different as the mounting holes dont match the renogy panels. fingers crossed, but i flagged my calender for 11mos in case these need to come off and be replaced too...

getting in full sun 20+amps from the 400w of panels so happy today & they sent me some small 4w panels with usb's as a kicker too. so far so good.

Hi Dave and welcome (I see this is your first post) Thanks for the heads up, too bad you had to go through the trouble of replacing your panels but it sounds like your on the right track now. Can you tell us what the output was from the panels when you first installed them? I'm also interested in where and how you are measuring the output? When you say you saw 15v, was that out of the panels and into the controller, or was that the output of the controller? If it's the output of the panels, directly, are they connected in series or parallel? As for the amps you see, the state of charge of your batteries will make a big difference in charge rate, with discharged batteries accepting a higher current than nearly full ones, so I assume you were seeing a low charge rate with discharged batteries? If you haven't seen it, there is another discussion of solar panel output here
http://www.sportsmobileforum.com/for...els-17354.html

I've felt all along that there may be an issue with the output of my Renogy 100w panels, but after researching the amount of losses due to heat, wire size, and controller's, I now think I may be closer to normal. Still, several folks report better output than what I get. Are your panels Mono or Poly? (I'm not sure what HQST stands for)

Again, welcome to the discussion, I look forward to hearing how yours hold up.

last may when the renogys arrived i tested them before installing and got the rated 20v on them. all summer last year i could get 15-20amps in from them and charged up the bank by noon or 1p.

after trying to figure out the charge problems, i measured each panel separately and got at best 15-16v and not the 20v they should have been accumulating. when they were hooked in parallel to make the amps additive, voltage to the controller dropped to 13-14 volt and among all 4 could not get more than 4amps charge coming in from them. each panel should have been producing in full sun just over 5amps.

i've got 750ah of batteries and the panels were definitely defective and would only limp the charge along.

now i'm back to load output of about 6 amps between the fridge/freezer, 2 fantastic vent fans, wifi and security and the other 10-15 going back into the batteries on a sunny day.

my wiring is big- 6 from the roof and i think 4 or 2 to all the batts/converter/inverter/charger so not really losing anything there- just hope the hqst's hold up and keep producing- it's hot out here already.

not sure why this thing wont save my signature...

they are 100w flex panels with similar size, form and spec to the renogy 100w flex but seem slightly different (at least these are working )
