Can you use Group 27 batteries for the primary starting battery and for running lights and DVD player?

My Optima Yellow top battery just went dead and I want to replace it.

Both Interstate (Costco) and Johnson Controls (WalMart) have Marine/RV batteries with 690 Cold Cranking Amps.

Can I replace my Optima with one of these (if it fits)?

Call Jeff and talk to him about batteries.
A little further south than you but a solid business.

Landvan-do you mean house battery when you say lights and DVD player? Most people utilize the larger(both capacity and physical size) 4D AGM for their house battery.

I didn't really mean House Battery because I don't have one. My question is, can I use a Group 27 battery as my battery for starting the engine and running my interior lights and DVD player?

Something like this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart...3=2253&veh=sem

Replacing House Batteries - Recommendations?

Sure you can, but most folks don’t. Too much chance of drawing down your starting battery and not being able to crank when you need to. If you go that route, try and put in the biggest replacement battery that you can fit.

AGM deep cycle/starting like the Deka (east penn) intimidator line. Also avail under other private label brands. Found at batteries plus too

Reviving this thread: I am replacing my house battery (lots of abuse last year killed it), and now that the cold part of winter is over (van is parked outside where it is subject to extreme cold), I searched these old posts to see what guys think is best. I'm sticking with AGM because my battery is in the typical Sportsmobile EB tray behind the rear axle, so maintenance is infeasible, although considering the prices, I'm thinking about fabricating a cable-crank type system to raise and lower the battery (anybody done it? I have something in mind like salvaging spare tire cranks - the kind typically used for pickups or vans under the back - and a bit of welding, perhaps).

Anyhow, prices for 4D batteries distributed by Batteries Plus in Fort Collins, CO in March, 2020:
Lifeline AGM, 1100 amp-hour, $630 + tax + $100 shipping
Magnapower AGM, 1100 amp-hour, $477 + tax + free shipping
Duracell flooded, 1050 amp-hour, $160 + tax (didn't ask about shipping, since a flooded battery is not feasible at this time)

So I'm going to try the Magnapower. For a 25% price difference, I doubt the Lifeline would last 25% longer... the price of the Duracell flooded type battery makes it obvious why I'm thinking about ways to make maintenance easier.

I think you are confusing amp hours with CCA (cold cranking amps). There is no way a 4D battery is going to have 1100 amp hour capacity. Amp hours are what you should be looking at and also a deep cycle battery. If you are mounting under the van, I would go with an AGM for the house battery and I would not mount a 130 pound battery under the van unless it was in a cage and bolted to the van. I use a floor jack with a board. This has lowered and raised the battery with no problem.

^^^^^what he said....If 4D AGMs had 1100 Amp hours there wouldn't be much demand for lithiums.....They are about 200-220 amp-hours AFAIK.
