Re: Satellite Radio for 04 SMB

I wired an XM radio into my stock Ford head unit soon after purchasing my '04 Sportsmobile. It's velcroed to the dash under the radio. It doesn't get great reception driving in the wooded mountains of the north, but otherwise I love having it -- especially when I'm down in Baja. If you're curious, here are the details:

I still don't have a backup camera, but yeah I should.

Re: Satellite Radio for 04 SMB

Mike you can add Sirrius or XM to your factory radio I might even have one you can have.
You can also Bluetooth to a factory radio as well in most cases.

If you want a new head unit remember or style Ford vans are really DIN and 1/2 size. So a single DIN radio will fit with a 1/2 DIN storage box/installation kit or you can trim the dash penal a bit and use a double DIN radio instll kit. I really like the American International Double DIN kits as I think they fit the best of the two to three I have tried in Ford trucks and vans.

You will also want to buy a speaker and power wire adapter just to make it easier.

And DIN radio removal tools for your factory radio although you can borrow mine since you are onlly going to be removing you old radio one time.

If you dont care about Navigation or a back up screen you could easily go witha single DIN radio. Some are a bit complex as the are smaller and some are not touch screen.

This was a good thread about speakers and head units.

Good luck and please let me know if I can help...

Re: Satellite Radio for 04 SMB

Well, I just ordered a Pioneer AVH-3400HB w/GEX-P920WM receiver. Comes with various pieces to make it install in my van. It is a double DIN unit, but I wanted the larger screen for clarity with my old eyes.

Next week it should show up and then I get to install it and have some fun. Really looking forward to having the satellite radio and Bluetooth when traveling. Just don't know how I ever lived without them.

Wish me luck,

Mike

Re: Satellite Radio for 04 SMB

Good luck. Replacing a head unit shouldn't be too bad, I've actually done that before. Luckily you do not need to deal with GPS, backup cameras, etc. Looking forward to reading how it all goes.
