Sirius Satellite Radio

We are the third owner of our 03" SMB. It came with the Kenwood in dash Sirius receiver that I'm assuming was installed by SMB and we were told that it was a lifetime subscription. On a trip this past weekend it suddenly stopped broadcasting Sirius and the display flashed the msg. " Call Sirius to Suscribe". We called while we were driving and Sirius wanted names and account # which we don't have.
Has anyone had this happen and does anyone know a way out of this?

Re: Sirius Satellite Radio

I'm not positive, but I think the lifetime subscriptions are tied to a person, not equipment. I seem to remember that you would have a lifetime account, and transfer the access to another device 3 times, but if you needed to transfer to a fourth device they would charge you $75.

What does Sirius say when you tell them your radio id, and that it was supposed to have a lifetime subscription?

Hello Buji,

We were calling from a cell driving thru the mtns. in bad weather and lost the cell phone connection. I haven't called them back yet.

Re: Sirius Satellite Radio

I have a lifetime subscription to xm radio and I'm pretty sure it belongs to me only. I can change it to other radios and other vehicles but it is in my name and I don't think I can transfer it to someone else.

Re: Sirius Satellite Radio

Thanks Peasbug,
How long have you had the subscription?. I'm wondering if Sirius is conducting random checks on
subscribers by stopping transmission and having them call in.

Re: Sirius Satellite Radio

Bob, it might be due to when the PO signed up for the service. I don't have the lifetime service but I signed up in may of 06 and I just got my notification that my subscription is due. It could also indicate the PO finally got another receiver and transfered it over. Have you contacted the Previous owner?

Re: Sirius Satellite Radio

Hello Dave, I'm the 3rd owner and I haven't contacted the original owner nor do I know him. I've contacted the folks who I purchased the SMB from and am waiting to hear back from them.

Re: Sirius Satellite Radio

I got my lifetime subscription years before I got the SMB. I got my SMB in 2007. When XM was very new they offered a cheap lifetime subscription ($300) but it was a leap of faith if XM would catch on last very long. I don't know how much the subscription is now or if they even offer a lifetime subscription. I have noticed once or twice a year my service is off and I just call xm and they reset it in a few minutes. That may be what happened to you, but if you don't have an account number they won't be able to reset you radio.
