OK, I see now. The SiriusXM satellite coverage maps show curved blobs focusing on two points over the USA. The fringes of these blobs extend farther south in mainland Mexico than in Baja California to the west. That's why I got decent coverage near Mexico City, but not in the southern tip of Baja:

I think they're the same since the merger, just different channel numbers. Apparently, there is a SiriusXM option now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SiriusXM#Receivers
