Sirius vs. XM Radio
Does anyone have an opinion regarding which has better programming, or which is a "better" service. I don't have any experience with either service and I am interested in getting one or the other. Thanks in advance.

PeasBugs,
Many of your questions re the SMB options my wife and I have struggled with too. Sirius vs XM, power PH, winch?, XL storage vs not, ARB lockers?, etc...
We went with Sirius solely because we're NPR addicts. The fact that XM and Sirius may merge soon may make this topic a moot point. That was our deciding factor.

To totally hi-jack... the used SMB I'm getting has power PH and someone pointed out that it became increasingly important as you load more and more stuff on the roof. For me it's a little superflous because I won't even have a rack, but I still think it will be nice.
I've never considered the Sirrus or XM question because I just refuse to believe they'll have a music selection that fits my tastes and is non-repetative to boot. I don't know how to find out without listening for at least a week either.

I can only speak for Sirius. Because I like a wide range of rock 60s to heavy metal, there are about 5 stations I bounce between. On preformance, Sirius has a moving satellite so you have to move the antenna to keep up with it. It frequently cuts out driving in forested areas (depending where the satellite is) but I still would not be without it. I have the Boom box which accepts the receiver out of the cab. I can set it up by the fire and it has a antenna that you can move around, up to about40 feet. I don't have to blast the neighbors if there are any close by. It has a aux input and I plan to hook my MP3 to it. But because they keep changing the units. If the boom box goes bad I have to change the receiver and if the receiver goes bad I would have to purchase a new boombox. This also means changing the cradle on the dash. What I do like is if I am by myself the DJs become company kind of. DaveB

XM experience
I have XM. It has similar problems with cut-outs in heavy trees or mountainous areas, but otherwise it's been great, all the way south to almost Mexico City.
Any one station can get a bit repetitive, but there are lots of new music genres to try that I wouldn't normally find on FM.
My XM receiver is wired directly to the CD input of my stock Ford radio.

Let me amend that. I just got back from a Baja trip, and this time my XM reception started degrading south of latitude 27 N, and was almost unusable by the time I got near Cabo (23 degrees N).
Not sure why my experience was different this time.

Re: Sirius vs. XM Radio
When I compared Sirius and XM, the real difference was not in music, but in the sports channels. XM covered baseball, Sirius did Football, so I went with XM

Re: Sirius vs. XM Radio
I have serious Sirius/XM they've combined the two, seems to work great. No sports, and certainly no Stern.
