Should solar charge house or start battery side of the Blue Sea ACR?

Hello wise ones.

I have two 25”x30” solar panels and a Specialty Concept Mark 22 SCC that came with the van. Pretty sure smb west installed them. I’m unsure of how they wired it because when I replaced the house battery I didnt see wires from the SCC so I assumed the wires terminate at one of the start batteries. FYI I replaced the blue isolator with the blue sea ACR 7622.

So the Blue Sea ACR 7622 sits between my start batteries (qty 2 for my 7.3) and my house battery (Lifeline 4d agm).

1) What side of the ACR should I terminate the solar charging wires, house or start?

2) Do I have to terminate the neg wire from the solar charge controller (SCC) to the negative post of the battery or can I ground it to chassis?

3) I ask for your advice to see if it’s worth the effort to yank the existing wires and run them to the house battery instead.

Your solar charge controller wires are most likely located where the house fuse block is, there’s a house battery terminal or distribution block, in my RB-50 that was under the sleeper sofa.

The Solar Charger should go to the house side of the ACR. I would also run a ground bus that goes directly to the battery. It is worth it to yank, and replace.

Also, the previous install had an isolator so it is conceivable that they wired the positive to the alternator post of the isolator. That way they could have charged both start & house batteries. If they wired to the start batteries, it would have only charged the start batteries.

Thank you for the input. Why is it important to terminate the - to the negative battery post instead of grounding to chassis?

Not sure where it would be.

And where the neg from the SCC would be either.

In 2006, SMB ran the solar + to the house side of the my separator. IIRC the solar negative was ran to the ground terminal block close to the separator. There is a separate ground from the block to a high amp post where the 4/0 negative terminates coming from the battery bank.

Thanks Dave. I’ll take a closer look.
