Here's a pic of the cam (with threaded hole) that secured the solar panel framework into the roof rail.



Here are three pics of the damaged roof rail. I believe most of the surface scratches on the black roof rail were there as a result of the installation and/or prior roof rail use, and not a result of the solar panel framework situation.

Mu suggestion is to use the standard foot for the Yakima Tracks, and fabricate a mount that will use it. (I think it is #6 or #7)

This means you dont have to modify the tracks, and gice you all kinds of flexibility on what you do above that foot.

Our two panels are mounted in this fashion and so far over 8k+ miles we have no issues. We will be sliding the panels further forward and adding a farring at some point.

So underneath the silver bracket, is a partially dissassembled (base portion only) Yakima mounting foot? Looks like a nice install.

Yes, and it is really not even partially disassembled. Yakima made this pretty modular.

If you look at the tower in the background, it uses the same foot. The feet can be purchased alone, and then they are mated to the tower. The tower can also be used in multile applications, on the feet for their tracks is just one. I think there are a dozen or so different kids of feet for different applications.
