SurePower Separator Indicator Lamp Circuit

This modification is for people that have the SurePower separator. If you have ever wondered if your batteries were connected or not this will give you some indication if they are. It is really easy as we just tap into circuit that turns the Sure[power relay on.

The two wires need to attach to the Coil Terminals (These are not the terminals the batteries connect to) they should be smaller 10/32; maximum torque is 20 in/lbs. The polarity of the two wires should not matter when connect to the relay coil. Using a SPST relay we hook ground to 87 (normally open). Terminal 30 then goes to the cathode side of the LED. Supply a fused 12 volt supply to anode side of the LED.

When the Surepower battery monitoring circuit turns on engages separator, the same voltage is used to connect the ground to the cathode of the LED through the SPST relay. This will now give you some indication if the Battery Separator is actually closed or open.

It is important to warn you that even though the separator is closed, it is possible that you still are not getting maximum amount of transfer between batteries. This could be caused by loose or dirty contacts on the battery connections, and there can also be a buildup of contact resistance internally on the separator contacts.

On another note: There is a lamp terminal on the separator, this will not work as it does exactly as it says, turns on only when the start signal is activated.
