I have a much more simple system:
I have a 2003 E350 EB SMB 18 years old and have replaced several house batteries.
When house lights don't work, Refrigerator won't make ice, the beer is warm. Pretty good sign I need a house battery. The true test is they work when the engine is running.
The last time was last year. I was on the Snake below the Tetons. Drove to Rock Springs. WY.
Saw a store called Battery Solutions (My 1st thought was I-phones, flashlights etc....no it was a commercial batteries store for ranching and mining operations. Just so happed they had a replacement battery. He was apologetic for the costs. He said the best he could do was $440. I knew that was good from the last one I bought in Los Angeles installed was almost $700. I took it up the street and the mechanic installed for $50..
There are still good people in this convoluted world.
Addendum: my stock 03 E350, 7.3, SMB has no additional gauges other than the stock in-dash: fuel, H2O temp, electric charge and oil pressure. This seems to have served me well.
2003 E350 EB, 7.3, 4X4, 295,000 just returned from northeast Utah via Death Valley, Bishop and south on 395/14/5 ='s Burbank, CA
