Ventilation

What do you guys do for ventilation when not using the pop-top? Some nights spent sleeping in stealth mode seem to get a little more moist than others. I have curtains covering my windows which I usually leaved cracked a little bit but it seems to not be enough. I have seen some electrical fans but would it be ok to cut a hole in the fiberglass penthouse top?

Re: Ventilation

I have a fantastic fan in the cab center. Put in by the previous owner. I like it, but I don't know if I would be able to cut into the last 25" of roof on my van were it not already there.

That coupled with a venting rear window is theoretically a good vent system, but it's always either so hot I sit right under the fan or cold enough I turn it off. I never seem to camp in a good medium.

Re: Ventilation

We use the SMB rear door screens and have a small 12v fan inside sitting on the counter. (The 6" turbine fan that SMB provides was way too noisy.) This fan works great. Available from boating stores.

Re: Ventilation

Fantastic portable fan. 3 amp draw on high and puts out a ton of flow. Expensive but worth it IMO.

Ditto. And it fits perfectly in my windows.

Re: Ventilation

That's a Caframo fan. I have heard nothing but good things about their RV/Marine fans.
I have the Model 737 folding battery fan from them and I love it.
Check out the Sirocco Model 807.

Do you put it in the front door windows? Any idea if it will work with the bug Skreenz?

Re: Ventilation

Herb, I usually hang it off the PH hooks with a bunji or drop the front PH window just enough to hold the fan against the bug screen (I sleep with my head toward the rear of the vehicle). Its a little noisy on high but that helps me sleep, like being by a stream or ocean beach. I don't know how tight those door window screens are but this fan really moves air. It fits OK in the lower passenger window.

Re: Ventilation

If it's not much wider than the door frame the Skreenz should go over it. You'd have to find a way to secure it in the door window, which I don't think is truly vertical (meaning hanging it from the top of the door frame would mean the Skreenz would be supporting it).

Maxxfan vs Fantastic Vent

I know this is an old thread, but I did not want to start a new for for this.

I am finally at the stage where I can get this going and I am wondering if anyone here has tried a Maxxfan: http://www.maxxair.com/maxxfan.html

I did not find anything when I searched.

I am sold on the Fantastic Vent after reading many testimonials and great stuff about their customer service, but I also like some aspects of this Maxxfan and was looking for more feedback.

There is some stuff on the web comparing the two, but not much.

Just curious.
