Where is my keyless entry module?

Hey all. I’m trying to add factory remote keyless entry to my 2010 E-350. It has power door locks. I’ve tried turning the ignition switch on and off 8 times within 10 seconds but I can’t get the van to enter programming mode, suggesting that I don’t have a transceiver or whatever my van needs to work with remote transmitters. I’ve looked at the ford parts website but can’t seem to identify what I need and where it goes. I have a number of open connectors on my wires both under the steering wheel and behind the drivers side pillar. I’ve got an E-Series Wiring Diagram manual in the mail from eBay so maybe that will offer insight.

In the mean time, has anyone added factory keyless entry to their 2009+ van? Thanks.

In the older vans (pre 08), the receiver was located at the base of the B pillar. I don't ever remember anyone retrofitting the factory receiver for keyless entry, but people have used inexpensive aftermarket keyless entry systems (myself included).

I believe that with the newer vans it’s a simple plugging in of a module to enable keyless entry. I could be wrong but I think I remember reading that somewhere.

I'm pretty sure thats the case with the older vans as well. I just dont ever remember hearing about anyone actually doing it. Maybe its due to the availability or maybe its due to cost? I know the aftermarket keyless system I bought was like $15 on amazon.

Do be advised beginning about 2004 factory RKE became "remote control locks & alarm" according to my EVTM for that year. Its features are controlled by the Vehicle Security Module (VSM) which is part of the CAN-BUS network.

(FWIW my '03 has the clunky module installed near the B-Pillar base, left side--its an actual visible device you can't miss assuming that area isn't covered with factory paneling or other built-out covering of some sort.

Here 'tis:

Given that fact it could be 100% possible to obtain Ford remotes, have them programmed to work as they should. There might be a "hack" to DIY program them but I don't know if that's possible or is a dealer-only sort of service.

Checking YouTube for something related to the E-Series might give an idea how to do this DIY.

HTH

Thanks JWA. Not sure if the 2009-14 vans use that same setup but that’s very helpful. Can you please tell me the part number of that module?

^^The module I show is not on your van---that type disappeared completely from the E-Series beginning in 2004.
