Ditto on that - we love our Honda 2k.

Jeffery - be careful what you ask for. I used to crave silence but since I've gone deaf - not so much.

Solar is pretty damn quiet.

+1. I can't figure why a generator is necessary unless you're watching big screen videos all night, lighting up the campground or using high horsepower power tools. All the things I got my SMB to get away from. I crave silence.
How else would I power my 110v water heater?

Who cares if you're in BFE. I run my engine when I need and is why I'd rather camp in BFE. [edit] if somebody is close I'm quiet.

Re: Which generator is quietest?

Really if a generator tends to be quiet the specs. will in all likelihood list a few db ratings for it. Are there any solar panels out there that work in the deep woods?

Re: Which generator is quietest?

Doesn't provide a comparions of Honda vs. Yamaha, but this at least gives a representation of the noise levels of the Honda models.

Re: Which generator is quietest?

Here is some comparison data: both db and unit price.

http://portable.generatorguide.net/quie ... ators.html

I was camping near a site that had two Champion units (they stack) and they were impressive at low load. Did not see them when under load.

Champion Power Equipment 73531i 2000 Watt Portable Gas Inverter Generator

The quiet units in their specs list a 1/4 load rating and full load rating. We have a Honda 2000i. Have always wondered the noise level of a Honda 1000i near FULL load versus a Honda 2000i at 1/2 load. Would suspect the 2000 would be a little quieter.

Re: Which generator is quietest?

The first time I ran across a Honda EU2000 was in a remote campground in Alaska. Only two of us there, and we were out walking. Walked right by (20') from the generator before I heard it! Very impressive. Fits right where that chart implies - normal conversation or less.

Not sure mine is that quiet.

Any idea how much power a 110V water heater uses? I'm assuming the 2.5 gallon electric heater supplied by SMB is probably one of the smallest and least demanding water heaters available. Is that the one you are refering to? I'm curious if it can run on 2000 watt generator or 2000 watt inverter. And if so, how much power is left to run other devices.

That's the one I have. Peter recommended genie or shore power only.

I use my eu2000i and it works great. Takes about 10-15 min to heat up. That's the only reason I bring my genie

Genie or shore power only versus what? Did Peter recommend not running it off inverter?

I'm curious because if a 2000 watt generator can run the water heater, it would seem a 2000 watt inverter should be able to also. Provided it has larger enough batteries to supply the needed current for the 10 to 15 minutes.

Also, some of the new vehicle alternators can put out more than 2000 watts of power, so it seems the vehicle could assist keep the batteries charged while a water heater was warming up.
