Windshield wiper fluid sprayer thingy...

Am I alone in that the Ford E350 factory windshield wiper fluid sprayer engages only after the wiper blades make a dry sweep first, resulting in fresh bug guts being smeared across the glass, rendering the washer fluid ineffective?

Any suggestions on how to remedy this would be greatly appreciated!!!

PS - My wiper fluid pump is brand new.

You are not alone. We were just talking about this on our last trip and commenting how this doesn't happen our our Toyota.

The other thing is the wiper chatter. Our last van did it as well. Love the SMB but come Ford?!?!

I worry about scratching the windshield so I just poor water on the windshield from my water bottle first.

Most E-series don’t do this. I’d suspect a plugged or worn out check-valve. I don’t know where it is, but you can just splice in a new one anywhere.

As far as wiper chatter…. Put on new blades. All blades do this when they get brittle. It’s not a design problem. All wiper blades among all brands are made by just a handful of MFGs. They don’t make their own.

My 07 sprays for a solid 2-5 seconds prior to the wipers engaging.. I think carringb nailed it.

My issue is aiming the nozzles... They spray nicely on the top 1/4 of the windshield and the front of my hi-top when at a stop.... works a little better going down the road! I've had no luck lowering the spray though.

.

Interesting, my wipers start immediately and it takes a wipe or two prior to any fluid spraying. Mine also hits just the top of the windshield so I pulse it on and off to wet more of the lower part.
