Yikes! In Seward, AK with almost dead house battery

Lifeline 4D AGM is dying. Thought it would make it thru the summer but I guess 6 years ain't bad. Any one know where I can buy a new house battery withing 200 miles (Anchorage works)? AGM preferred, but the local marine supply guy has lead acid group 24s which have had alot of success in their boats. Two in parallel would "work," but I'm concerned about the durability, etc. of them living underneath the van.

Thanks in advance,
Jay

From Lifeline's webpage:

BATTERIES PLUS # 429 ANCHORAGE, AK, USA 907-770-6110

Doesn't say whether they are stocked or not.

Hope this helps,
Herb

4D's can be hard to find. You may have to opt for two batteries.

Re: Yikes! In Seward, AK with almost dead house battery

Thanks for the quick responses. Got off the phone with Batteries Plus. Lifelines will take 2-4 weeks to deliver (!!) but the price was right ($578 plus shipping of $178... well maybe the price wasn't that right). For $200 +/- I can get the Group 24s installed and have all the power I need but without the durability of AGM's. Seems like a good short term solution. I'm headed back to Colorado mid September and there's already snow in the passes down by Whitehorse and Haines Junction. The furnace needs the power. Heat is good!

Thanks again.

Thanks, Doug. We're in Seward about to head out to the Kenai Peninsula. Should be in Anchorage around Sept. 7th or 8th. I really appreciate the offer and will call you if I'm having trouble wrestling the new battery(ies?) under the Sporto.

What a great forum! Thanks, all!

Re: Yikes! In Seward, AK with almost dead house battery

Sorry to hear about your battery problems. Seems expecting a road trip to Alaska to be trouble-free is perhaps not realistic. Our van is brand new, just got it delivered in December, but we had to put four new tires on it in Anchorage. The factory originals were worn out in only 15,000 miles. We were very disappointed at this unexpected expense, but at least it happened in a big city where we had maximum options.
Sounds like you have a solution in hand, and some local support. Could be a lot worse! Best of luck.
