Build finalized - 4/26/11 start date

My wife and I visited SMB West on 3/7 and met with Joseph Doyle who helped us finalize our build. It was pretty simple process given the amount of information I've been able to gather from this wonderful forum. Joseph walked us through all the options and gave us a tour of the facility. I felt like a kid at a candy store. We also had the pleasure of meeting Allen who explained their 4X4 system in great detail. All in all a wonderful experience. Are there any drugs that can cure anticipation?

Here is our phase 1 build sheet. Phase 2 will include some pricey options like Aluminess bumpers, AMP running boards and ultra leather front seats.

This is our 2006 6.0PSD Ford E-350 that is being converted.

Good for you, Tapatio. The anticipation is really fun, only to be completely outdone on delivery day. Congrats!

Congratulations! It looks like it will be really nice when it's done. I have to wait until June for my build. Thanks for reminding me to ask about exterior lighting. I've been wondering about that lately and kept forgetting to add it to my list of last minute questions ... it's added now.

This project brings back so many fond memories from my childhood. Here's a picture of my parents homebuilt Chevy and my brothers VW van somewhere in Baja, circa 1978.

Some pics of 4X4 getting installed. This is really happening, I'm so stoked.

Tapatio ,
You might want them to add a couple of 12 Volt outlets while you can to the exterior , they can come in handy . Great build and I know you will be pleased when it is finally done .

This never ends until the day you pick it up, and then it starts all over the day after.

Taptio- congrats! I know I couldn't stop thinking about my van during the build, I'd sit there and stare at the 4 pictures I would get at a time, looking at them over and over again, then scour this forum for hours until I passed out on the couch. It drove me insane, but its worth it all!!!

So SMB West is converting an old van to 4x4? This sounds like a sign of the times as they, historically, wouldn't convert a van more than a year or so old.

Hope they're going to hang in there through $5 fuel.

My van isn't old, it's pre-owned!

Allen made an exception for us after inspecting the drivetrain. I think he has a soft spot for diesels.
