Intro/Any Coastal South Carolina Sportsmobiles?

Short time lurker looking for a van/sportsmobile to actually look at in person. I live in the Myrtle Beach area but travel during the week. Home built is OK/Leaning towards homebuilt with possible penthouse top installed later. Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you specifically looking for a SMB for the interior & camper mods or just a 4x4 van? In in WNC (asheville) and have 2 4x4 vans here at different ride heights that you're more than welcome to check out.

I have a 1996 Dodge 3500 5.9L EB-21 in Lancaster, SC you're welcome to see. I tow a Ford Ranger behind it using a Blue Ox towbar and truck baseplate.

Re: Intro/Any Coastal South Carolina Sportsmobiles?

Ujoint I saw you were in Ashville. We (Wife & I)have been trying to plan a weekend up around that area for awhile. I wanted to look you up while we were there. Also I saw Morehead Designs somewhere, if I remember right they were also around there. I have owned 4wd trucks for awhile and it would be great to have the 4wd. My only hesitation is my plans include towing a lot. 2wd may be a better option but really still planing. Thanks for the response and will take you up on the visit.

Michaelstead we were up in CHA a month or so ago at a horse show. Do you have a penthouse top? The EB is really what I want size wise (3 kids). I need to look at your layout. East coast SMB's seem to be few and far between. Thanks.

Yes, we have a penthouse top on our EB-21.

I like the layout on your SMB, unsure about the kids traveling sitting sideways. Do you travel very often with more than two? I still think the EB is for us. I like the idea of maybe a single bucket behind the drivers seat (for the car seat) with a gaucho across the back for the older kids. Similar to the EB31 without both buckets.

Re: Intro/Any Coastal South Carolina Sportsmobiles?

It's usually just my wife and I camping together. Our next SMB will have a forward facing sofa/bed. I'm 6'3" and I keep banging my head on the penthouse bedrails unless I slouch on the side sofa, which isn't very comfortable. I'm usually driving anyway, or sitting in the swivel front passenger seat when parked. We bought this SMB used.

I was at SMB Indiana a couple months ago for some service, inspecting the SMBs on their lot while I waited. I did not have to slouch in the "50" models to keep from hitting my head. And the material overhead is much softer/padded than the material on the penthouse bed rail over the side sofa/couch.

Also, My wife said next time she would like a bed arrangement that would allow the bed to be kept "made" over a few days, depending on the nature of our trip. The EB-50 or something similar would allow that.

I would also recommend, if you end up with a center-asle floorplan, that you keep one side "open" so you can easily bend at the waist and turn yourself around with the penthouse down. The EB-21 has an open side and I like that.

I agree with the forward facing sofa/seat. I also like your idea with the one open side. One bucket seat behind the driver, sofa/seat across the back. Slim cabinets along the passenger side and fridge on passenger as close to he door as possible. No current plans for stove or seat. Only slightly different than the EB50.
