I know, but I figured that when you are buying an "8 gallon" tank, it would be sized to hold an actual 8 gallons, so the tank itself would be 10 gallons (that is what SMB Indiana thought).

With only 6.4 gallons, how do people manage with a propane furnace and propane generator?

Hi;

No then they would brag they installed a 10 gallon tank! 80% would yield 8 gallons.

Remember that when the liquid propane turns to gas it's volume increases well over 200 times so there's lot's of vapour to burn.

Regards,

Gavin

I don't think I've ever had a 5 gallon tank get much more than 4 in it. Even if it shows more than 4 gallons on the gauge, you do pay for what escapes into the air.

Can you get an adapter hose so you can also use the 1 gallon, green disposable propane bottles? Get that and bring along 1 or 2 of the disposables as emergency backup propane.

Good idea. I will have a connector for a gas grill, but I suppose that won't work. I need to find out more about that. However, I am using propane for just stove and hot water, so I think 6 gallons will last a long time.
