Please help on Thule Rack Hardware

I have the factory installed Thule tracks on my penthouse roof.

The problem is that no one, including Sportsmobile, seems to know the correct Thule hardware to attach to the tracks. They recommended I purchase the "Podium Foot Pack #460." It doesn't work - at least by itself.

The instructions for the Podium foot thingy says it "requires a vehicle specific Fit Kit".

Does anyone know which "Fit Kit" I should order or whether I need something else entirely?

I searched back a couple of years and did not see mention of the specific hardware required.

Many thanks, Ed

Here is a picture of the "Podium Foot Pack" which doesn't seem like it is going to fit.

Re: Please help on Thule Rack Hardware

send that picture to the thule help email. they are pretty good about getting back to you and they helped me with the foot that will attach to that. I needed a sheetmetal mount so the part number will be different

Re: Please help on Thule Rack Hardware

Ed,

I had the same thing installed on my electric PH top a couple of years ago. You need the Thule TK1 kit that will affix into the track groove. You also need the Thule Tracker II #430 feet which will affix (and lock if you have the lock cores) onto the Thule TK1s. Of course you still need the actual load bars. I have both lengths, 58in and 78in.

Now that you know the Thule part numbers look on their site for installation instructions. If you cannot find them I would be happy to scan my instructions then email them to you.

When I needed to buy more TK1s and Tracker II #430s I looked on eBay. I got really lucky and got 2 sets and lock cores for about half the usual price. They were never used, I lucked out.

Hope this helps™,

Thanks my3kids,

Yikes! The TK1 has been discontinued!

Hopefully there is a suitable replacement. . .

Note to self, next time have SMB install the frickin Thule rack, and also don't wait until just before a big trip to try and figure it all out.

Wow, you're right! I had no idea. A quick peek on eBay and I see a few:

Since Thule no longer makes them I also didn't see a replacement part either ..

Re: Please help on Thule Rack Hardware

If you already have the Thule 460 Podium Foot Pack then you need the Kit3101 to mount onto the Thule track.

The Kit3101 would be roughly the same as the discontinued TK1. The 460 would be roughly the same as the 430.

To see the 460/Kit3101 details go through the Thule site, specify the vehicle as a 1992 Toyota 4Runner with factory tracks and the 460/Kit3101 details are coughed up.

Hope this helps™,

Re: Please help on Thule Rack Hardware

my3kids,

I downloaded all info as you suggested. Deep in the small print it says that the 460/3101 is only good for 110 pounds. I'm not sure if that is per podium, per pair, or the whole deal.

Sheesh. Why even bother? Maybe I can add another pair to increase load.

Thanks again. Hopefully I can get the 3101 fit kit and put it all together before I head out on my trip.

Best,

Ed

UPDATE: I talked with both Sportsmobile and Thule, and they both confirmed that what is required is the Podium Foot Pack #460 and the Fit Kit #3101. I ordered overnight, so we shall see!

UPDATE II: I spent the morning putting it all together. The above mentioned parts are indeed the correct ones. You will also need at least a 58 inch square cross bar. It did eventually all go together.

P.S. The Thule support via phone was immensely helpful. Very patient and knowledgable. If you have questions or problems with your Thule installation, forget about the dealers and go direct to Thule.

A garage big enough for your SMB?
