Re: SMB West build and SMB Austin Pickup - anyone done this?

I think you have a good game plan. Start slow, rather than taking delivery of the SMB and embarking on a five month 42 state journey.

A couple of nights in Texas is a great idea, but also allow one or two days to get any little issues resolved.

Lets see some pics when you take delivery.

Got some pics of your build this morning and will post them soon...they did a nice job cutting the roof. I also have some pics of the top and rack.

Dave.

Re: SMB West build and SMB Austin Pickup - anyone done this?

Dave - thanks so much!!!

I appreciate you taking the time to do that, and also all of the info in the PM as well. I am really looking forward to seeing the pics - the last few that I had a chance to look at were with the top still on the truck and them doing the sound deadening material. I am curious to see the rack and see if I'm gonna have any real-estate left for a rocket box after the other stuff goes up!

Thanks again!!!

Re: SMB West build and SMB Austin Pickup - anyone done this?

It may be best to do the Austin Pick up based on what I was told by a car dealership when I wanted to do something similar. Regarding the payment of sales tax in CA for cars bought in the State.

I am not an expert and merely mentioning what was told me when I almost bought a car
from a CA dealership. In my case, I wanted to avoid the CA sales tax seeing that the car was going to be driven and owned in another state. Galpin Ford was the CA dealership and they had the particular model I was going to buy, but they ended up selling it for much more than the sticker price so I did not go through with the buy.

I was told that the only way for me to not pay sales tax in CA with the purchase was to actually have it shipped from the dealership property to my State. Having it driven to my destination was not an option and would have triggered the sales tax being paid. I was told that the car would have had to been loaded on the transport at their location.

Once again, i did not end up getting the car so do not know if they were being truthful or not.
I simply wanted to pass this on for what it worth.

It seems with the price of gas nowadays it may make sense to transport your vehicle. I do know that SMB has a special Transport company they use and recommend for their vehicles.
I don't know if they have enclosed transport as that is most likely what you would be wanting given how special your vehicle is sure to be.

Congrats on your new ride to be. Have fun and enjoy it. Well done !!!
